Wedoshop: Your One-Stop Shop for All Things Cute

If you’re like me, who squees at anything and everything cute and cannot resist purchasing even just one single teeny weeny cute item that you will probably never use, then perhaps a visit to Wedoshop will be both heaven and hell for you.

Heaven because Wedoshop is filled with shelves of cute merchandise that you can’t find elsewhere, and hell because you’ll be constantly fighting an inner battle with yourself over whether or not you need that new character mug or yet another box of facemask sheets.

But let’s move on, folks — for now, let’s explore Wedoshop through these photos and see what makes this humble shop differ from the rest of the shops that sell novelty items and other lifestyle goods. First up, a little preview of the store!

TheSocialJeep.com was invited to a VIP & bloggers sneak peek during Wedoshop‘s soft opening today, November 17, at Talamban Times Square, Cebu City. Upon arriving at the shop, I took in the beautiful view of a thoughtfully and systematically-arranged shelving and product layout. Mind you, nothing makes a curious shopper happier when they realize that the goods are arranged to ensure a seamless transition and stress-free browsing experience.

For instance, after you browse through the various mugs and bottles on display at Wedoshop, you immediately transition to pillows and children’s toys — as if the store was arranged with the feelings of mothers and homemakers in mind!

tsj-wedoshop-soft-opening-2-november-17-2016

Wedoshop is not just your typical novelty item store. Coming from the same company that brought 2358 Exquisite Enterprises, Inc., a fast fashion designer brand from South Korea, to the Philippines, Wedoshop is a one-stop creative lifestyle shop focusing on the current market trends prevailing particularly in East Asia. Wedoshop currently has eight branches in the Philippines, seven of which are located in Metro Manila. That’s right, folks, the Wedoshop branch in Talamban Times Square is the first ever Wedoshop branch outside Metro Manila and the first in the VisMin region!

The shop is highly popular among shoppers aged 15 to 35, and rightly so, because their products are always in tune with the latest trends and are truly affordable! Light on the pocket yet of high quality and fashionably stylish and cute — that’s what Wedoshop’s products are. With prices ranging from as low as Php50 to as high as P500, it’s a good destination for holiday gift shopping or last-minute birthday surprises.

So whether you’re heading to the store to purchase home decor items or to find beauty items to give as gifts to your friends, we’re mighty sure you’ll find something of your liking at Wedoshop. Personally, I wanted one of these mugs. This is a mug with a cover and a built-in teaspoon! You’ll never need to grab a separate teaspoon to whip up a mean mug of instant coffee.

Cute, right? Better head on to Talamban Times Square one of these days to grab one for yourself! More of the cuteness from Wedoshop: Your One-Stop Shop for All Things Cute in the gallery below! Enjoy viewing. ♥

Hello Pal: Going Beyond Borders

hello pal cover

Have you ever felt that unexplainable need and craving to learn new languages, to immerse yourself fully in the culture of countries not your own and to interact with locals of these different countries in their own native language?

I have. Countless times. I will admit, however, that the countries closest to my heart are Japan and Korea, because they have been important parts of my life as I was growing up.

My love for Japanese anime as a child spurred on my interest in the Japanese language and culture, and My half-Japanese seat mate in sixth grade further fueled my desire to learn Japanese whenever she would share tidbits about Japan and some useful words or phrases.

However, my learning and improvement in the language was quite limited because I had no proper resources to rely on — this was 2005, after all, where books were the go-to resource and e-books were not as widely circulated as they are today — and I had no one else except my half-Japanese seat mate to practice the language with. It was only when I entered university in 2010 that I was able to practice my Japanese and improve tremendously as I joined a Japanese culture studies organization where I was able to interact with Japanese nationals and practice conversing with them in Japanese.

It was through this experience that I realized that no matter how many vocabulary lists you master, or how many grammar concepts you understand, nothing will ever integrate a new language into your mind as constant usage and practice of the language ever will. This is why language schools today are very particular with making conversation classes or practice time a must  — it is only through putting the language into good use will the speaker’s learnings be reinforced and their knowledge in the language retained.

This is why I am very thankful that I have come across Hello Pal just as I started taking interest in learning Korean seriously. It is by far the most innovative way to learn new languages and have fun meeting new, interesting friends at the same time, too! It has certainly helped people break beyond language barriers and changed the game for people who love learning languages (like me!) and for those who travel often and thus need an easy, quick way to learn the local language of wherever they’re headed.

But what is Hello Pal?

hello pal google play

Hello Pal is a FREE social language learning app where phrase books, vocabulary lists, translation tools and an integrated social network and chatting platform are all seamlessly blended into one very light (only 20MB for Android!) language learning tool. It stays true to the principle of believing that the best way to learn a language is where speaking comes first, learning comes second and encourages its users to “learn and speak on the go.”

There is no need for you to know a single word of Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, or any language that you wish to learn. Simply install the app on your device, sign up for an account, and you’ll be on your merry way towards exchanging your first 안녕하세요 (Hello in Korean) with a new friend! Here’s a screen shot of the Sign In/Register screen that you’ll see as soon as you install the app.

hello pal sign

Let’s explore Hello Pal!

As soon as you have registered or logged into your Hello Pal app for the first time, you need to set up your profile and set up a few preferences, including your native language, the language that you want to learn, and other languages that you can also speak. This is for their database of users that will help in filtering and matching you with people who best suit your interests when it comes to learning languages. Here are the settings I’ve chosen for mine.

hello pal language

Once your profile’s ready and all set, finding new pals and initiating a chat with them is as easy as pie! Make the most out of your Hello Pal experience by filtering the suggested users according to  spoken language, learning language, nationality, current location and age group. This way, Hello Pal helps you connect with the pals you can truly have a language exchange with. It’s like having a social network of pen pals (like in the old days where people fancied snail mail) but with the added convenience of getting swift, immediate replies!

hello pal search

But wait, that’s not all. Hello Pal also contains a translation app built into the system so you can translate from your native language to your learning language as you go and as you chat with your new-found pal. Pretty convenient. Say hello to efficiently communicating with people all over the world from day one! Hello Pal truly helps users transcend borders and connect despite the language barrier.

In the short time that I’ve been on Hello Pal, I’ve had the privilege to meet several interesting personalities who were very enthusiastic to learn English. And yes, you guessed right — they’re from South Korea, which also gives me an opportunity to practice my Korean when I chat with them! Here’s a sample chat with one very interesting fellow though — he’s Korean but has lived elsewhere for a while and also speaks Japanese! How cool is that? 🙂

hello pal chat

The one single thing that sealed the deal for me with Hello Pal, however, would be the fact that its built-in phrase books are also available as separate apps! These are useful as learning tools that I can access when I’m bored but do not have immediate access to an internet connection, which the phrase books in the main Hello Pal app are dependent on.

Depending on your display preferences for the app, there are Lite and Full Phrasebook — the difference being that the Lite one only show the most important phrases or words, while the Full Phrasebook shows a variety of words with several topics to choose from!

hello pal phrasebook

Overall, Hello Pal is a really enjoyable app to use — one that makes language learning fun and worthwhile while allowing its users to go beyond the limits of their comfort zones to connect with others. Why not join in the fun? Hello Pal is available for Android on Google Play and for iOS on the App Store.

Go on, click that ‘Install’ button, and have fun chatting away!

Top 9 Reasons Why You Gotta Be at GOAB

It’s that time of the year again where we geeks wish we were relaxing at the beach,  instead of staying huddled in front of our laptops and gadgets. With our thoughts running a mile a minute and jumping from one project to another to keep up with the workload, we can only scream the words “I need a break!” in our minds. Sometimes, on the most tiring and task-filled days, we can only wish we could mix work and leisure together.

Sometimes, on the most tiring and task-filled days, we can only wish we could mix work and leisure together.

Now, friends, this is where Geeks on a Beach (or GOAB, to all you acronym-loving geeksters out there) comes in. Words cannot express our delight  for this event, where the brightest minds in technology, startup, entrepreneurship and design convene together in summer wear and bare feet against the fine sands of Boracay.

But alas, let us count the reasons why GOAB is the place and event to be, especially this August 2015:

GOAB - Product Ad - 1 - May 25, 2015

  1. Learn from the leaders of the technology, startups and design world

The best and the brightest minds in technology, startups and design will be present at this dress-down, straight to the point and no-holds-barred conference to share their ideas and best practices to invigorate the Philippine startup ecosystem! We’re just getting started, but it’s already awesome!

  1.  Get up close and personal with the panel —  find the answers you’ve been looking for

Don’t worry if our speakers’ presentations don’t cover questions that are left unanswered in your mind. At GOAB, we encourage everyone to throw these questions at our speakers so they can give us a lil’ piece of their brain. Yum!

  1. Choose sessions on topics that matter to you the most

We’re here to learn, yes, but we’re not in university anymore, where we’re required to attend classes for every subject that’s on your syllabus. Nope. Not here. Your best interests are prioritized. Feel free to join all the breakout sessions if that’s what floats your banca, but know that you can always choose to attend only those that matter to you.

GOAB - Product Ad - 2 - May 25, 2015

  1. Serious talks about anything under the sun  in your most comfortable clothes

Whether it be about the latest updates on what’s new with the social media scene or the syntax and semantics of programming languages, rest assured you’ll be having comfortable conversations. Who would pass up on the opportunity to chitchat about geeky topics on the beach while sipping a refreshing drink?

  1. Meet angels in disguise — your company’s heaven-sent angels

GOAB is not only a venue for us to meet our fellow geeks, it’s also where we start believing heaven on earth is real. Angel investors and seed funding groups abound at GOAB, where they are constantly on the look out for fresh startups with brilliant visions! Here, geeks are given the chance to pitch their brightest and most innovative ideas to prospective investors to get their ideas off the ground.

  1. Know what’s actually happening in the Philippine and Southeast Asian tech and startups scene

This event is spearheaded by Techtalks.ph, a known industry leader in Philippine technology and startups. This non-profit community group has helped organize over 10 Startup Weekend workshops so it has connections with most startup leaders in Southeast Asia as well.  It’s no wonder that most attendees invited to the conference will be updated with what’s going on in the PH tech scene as well as neighboring countries. This makes for a good conversation starter between like-minded geeks too!

GOAB - Product Ad - 3 - May 25, 2015

  1. More opportunities to grow your social butterfly wings

We meet more and more people at GOAB every year — some very familiar faces that have been around since the inaugural launch of the event, and some fresh, new faces that were led by the curious cat to the venue. Nevertheless, GOAB proves to be a key networking opportunity for its attendees, because it brings together key players — investors, startup founders, developers and designers — from all over the world.

  1. Sponsorship opportunities are endless for your brand

Just as angel investors are constantly on the lookout for fresh ideas, sponsors likewise are given opportunities to improve their brand presence through the event. Our sponsors get premium exposure for their brands throughout the marketing campaign for GOAB, the premiere startup conference in the Philippines.

Furthermore, sponsors seeking more specific goals such as looking to hire talent or looking to invest in specific startups, can work with the GOAB organizers to customize their sponsorship to meet these goals.  Take this opportunity to use GOAB to further your company goals and meet personal objectives.

  1. Sun + Beach = FUN!

Geeks on a Beach will never be Geeks on a Beach without the sun, beach and awesome geeks! In between sessions and after a long day at the conference, we geeks come together to unwind and relax by the sea — a perfect ending to a productive yet fun-filled day at GOAB.

Whether you’re a first-time attendee testing the GOAB waters, or a loyal, dedicated fan that’s returning to Geeks on a Beach for the third (!) time, one thing resounds clearly for all of you: GOAB is the convention made by geeks, for geeks. It’s our belated summer escapade, where we work hard, and play harder.Head on over to

Ten Tips for the Next Project X!

People often aspire to be part of the organizing team for events, mostly because of its perks, may it be the free food or merchandise, or the chance to be up close and personal with the event guests. However, events are not easy to organize, as they entail a lot of preparation on the organizing team’s part. One must be prepared for insanity — a lot of sleepless nights, countless stressful meetings that run for hours on end, and being pushed beyond their limits that a nervous breakdown is almost inevitable.

From strategic planning up until event delivery and closure, the entire event life cycle is a challenge in itself, but many will agree that the positive feedback they receive after the event make the experience worthwhile and much more bearable.

Of course, organizers don’t get out of these events clueless. A lot of valuable lessons are learned, some that would have saved time and kept their sanity a little more intact. Let’s take a moment to review these lessons together. This is not meant to discourage you from organizing your own events, mind you, but this is so that you can plan, execute your tasks properly, and save yourself the heartache while it’s still early.

Let’s get the ball rolling, shall we?
